Stephen is a dedicated “nooner” and you will see him at the gym consistently between 3-4 times each week. At the end of last year, Stephen worked 1-on-1 with Alexa for Nutrition coaching and most recently completed the CFH Eat Clean Challenge. During the 6-week Challenge, Stephen lost 7 lbs of body fat, and added one pound of lean muscle, decreasing his body fat percentage from 17.7% at the start of the Challenge to 13.4% at the end of the Challenge. Stephen proves that with focus, dedication, and effort you can experience improvements in your body and fitness at any stage of life.

Tell us a little bit about how and why you started CrossFit?
I wanted to join for a couple of years but always felt that “I needed to get into better shape before I joined CrossFit”. Yes, I know that sounds a bit backwards but I was intimidated and lacking muscle strength. Biking was my exercise of choice and in Sept. 2015 my bicycle was stolen, so I decided to switch things up and finally try CrossFit for “just a few months”. It was an impulsive, self-challenging decision that has since opened up so many new doors!
Do you have any advice for people who are looking to get into a consistent workout routine, but might be having a difficult time establishing the routine?
Once I stopped crying about my achy muscles and old-man attitude, I simply placed working out as a non-negotiable priority in my daily routine and before I knew it, a healthy habit was formed. I also lined up my workout gear the night before so its staring me in the face the next morning. Finally, doing the same time slot (noon class) has allowed me to get to know many of my fellow athletes, which has made my workouts more enjoyable and engaging.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself one year ago, what would it be?
Diet and exercise create an awesome synergy together! Since overhauling my diet five months ago (thanks Alexa!), I’ve noticed positive changes in energy, stamina, mental toughness, and overall body strength. Who knew?!
Congratulations on your progress Stephen, we can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
