Jill N.

My husband got me some intro classes for Mothers’ Day.  I had been running, but needed something different. I was pretty intimidated at first and frankly had no idea what was happening, so I was off and on for about a year before I officially joined in 2017. Once I started going to the 8:30am classes regularly, I started to feel a little more comfortable with the movements.

I remember feeling like a fish out of water.  I had never handled weights, barbells, wall balls, or done any of the typical crossfit movements. I remember the first time I did a 55# hang power clean and was really surprised I was able to do it.  Being at the gym was also very humbling.  I was really out of shape at the time.  I had never done this type of a group workout before and found that I really enjoyed working out with others and enjoyed having a community.

I actually have muscles – something I never really considered as a possibility! I am the most fit I have been in my life, at 46.  Around the same time I started CF, I stopped drinking and CF really helped me to stay focused on staying healthy and sober.  Being able to see myself getting stronger and reaching milestones at the gym motivated me to stay sober and keep going to the gym.  I started doing the early morning classes out of necessity, but I find that the days that I do make it to the gym I feel more focused and able to take on the challenges of the day.

I did my first Murph this year and did all 100 pull ups, a feat I was pretty sure was never going to happen.

I love the variety of the workouts and the community has been amazing. Working out with others definitely makes me work a lot harder than I would on my own!
